Background

The great quantity of information in telephone books, medical directories and other reference material often requires that editors reduce the size of the text as a way to minimize volume, weight and cost.
Reading may be made more difficult by poor illumination or impaired vision, a problem usually accentuated with age. The user often resorts to the edge of a card or a ruler for help in locating a name or an item. The process can be difficult, frustrating and prone to error.
This device is a very simple means of providing that guiding edge and once the correct entry is located, of enlarging the image with a magnifier.

The device makes reading small print, especially printed columns, easier. It does this by facilitating line selection and then enlarging its characters. The device can also be used to carry an advertising message.
